Yeah, I never felt real good about my Disco's brakes either - although I have a D1. I did put braided steel brake lines all around in place of the rubber ones that can balloon, and also put Speed Bleeders all around also, to make bleeding them easier. It helped some, but definitely keep them up to snuff. Stopping is important, especially if your kid is driving it !
