Optima batteries have always failed 2-3 years after I installed them.

they are made to recover after they are drained down, when you use them on your trolling motor, boat, camping. I read one place that they do not like the constant charge from an alternator. My buddy put one in his chevy pickup and it last just long enough for the warranty to run out.

Optimas are basically a huge rechargeable battery, like the AA you stick in the charger.

so far been very pleased, never had a problem. Not too bad for $152
Just looked on the Pep Boys site, the reviews are great, 48 month warranty and $152. It's literally a steal.

I put in an aftermarket battery tray, idk if it will fit in the factory tray. Do you really want to shop with pep boys if they are not honoring your warranty?

I am 83 days past warranty on my Optima Red Top, maybe it was wishful thinking on my part that Optima/ Pep Boys would assist? I honestly don't know if I can be upset about it? I have narrowed it down to the AutoZone Platinum AGM 65 (3 year warranty) or the Bosch AGM 65 (4 year warranty). I want to get the best bang for my buck, these 2 offer that.

Google
optima batteries suck

also, I got 6 years out of an $80 walmart battery...

idk how pep boys warranty works but i cant see you getting a new battery if it doesnt make it 48 months...especially since the quality materials that make an optima have changed to cheaper material.

I can only "jump" start the rover, everything else works as it should. I don't have additional lighting or a winch. Once she's started, I can drive her around, turn her off, start her back up. If I don't start for 2 days, it wont start unless "jumped." I use my ultra guage to monitor the volatge, its well within parameters when shes on.

Theres a page that discusses how to properly charge an optima.

some battery types need a pulse type charge which is what I use at work.

I'll see if I can find the page.
The military uses red and yellow tops religiously, they are always dead and hardly ever recoup.

I installed 8 red tops in a couple generators one year, came back a couple weeks later to check them and half were dead. Only two i think recovered and within a couple drills every gen had to be jumped.

After calling AutoZone/ CarQuest, they quoted me out the door for their AutoCraft Platinum AGM 65 at $148.95, one less year warranty and after all the taxes and fees from Pep Boys, I am saving $50 which I can use towards something else.
