Finally circling back around on this... I've had this solved for quite a while, but waited to post until I'd driven the Rover enough to be sure it is solved...

I was able to find the source of this noise...

The sway arm links that I purchased were aftermarket from Atlantic British.

They were the source of the noise and one ultimately failed - the Ball pulled completely out of the Socket... Atlantic British sent me a replacement... It failed as well...

Atlantic British then sold me OEM Sway Arm Links and refunded my money for the aftermarket versions...

The OEM replacements solved the problem...

The aftermarket versions were not strong enough to handle the forces created by the ACE package (and yes, Atlantic British knew that I had a Rover with the ACE system when they sold them to me). They are clearly under engineered.

I probably didn't need to replace the Ball Joints, but as a result of trying to track down this noise, I ended up replacing them, so the suspension should be in pretty good shape.

Next up is an Old Man Emu lift, shocks and some larger tires...

I am having a similar problem with the clunking noise when the body rolls but it seems to be coming from the back, not the front.

Check your watts linkage bushings. Mine are shot and makes the clunking in the rear when the body rolls (especially when backing up).

Hi DM.
I read your posts alot.
I just got back from the dealer because my fluid was leaking. He said it would be $1,000's to fix generally, and just disable it, turn it off and put the new belt in.
I noticed right away the difference in the handling. Softer, more roll in curves. I feel like I just ruined my precious Rover. He said it was in AWESOME shape, no frame rust at all, Very solid. I want to keep it forever. (being unempoyed partially doesn't help with maintenance) What are your thoughts?

You may want to start a new thread, since your issue is different from the OP. You may get a better response.

What is leaking? Do you have tools? You may be able to fix it yourself for a lots less $$.

on topic.just read through this.
I had a slight clunk, at low speeds (ace dormant speeds) traced it to the front bushings that cradle the roll bar to chassis. replaced and church mouse.

The ACE actuator on the front of mine had a huge leak - I changed the actuator but obviously had air trapped in there because it would throw up the warning whilst driving.

I had the car up on axle stands for a while whilst changing the brake pads and after that it was fine - it must have self-bled whilst the suspension was dangling down.

Result

As an aside, I was sceptical about whether ACE was any good but having driven it with and without I have to say that it makes a HUUUUUUGE difference on the road.
