I'm interested in this fuel pressure **** thing. Is that a blackbox solution?

Hahaha. I was confused. Posted on my phone and it picked "****" instead of test.

Fuel pressure test.

Sorry folks. I was on my phone and driving when I posted.

I thought it was pretty funny.

I'm also impressed with your phone's dictionary.

Haha. Yes, I taught my phone to cuss. Three times in a row and it is memorized. Apparently my thumbs wandered a little to the left when I meant to type "test".

For an update, I got the old harness out with no issues. I also prepped my other one with electronic cleaner, dielectric grease, and some electrical tape. I had forgotten that I would have to remove the air conditioner compressor and its bracket. Of course the manifold came off, too. I was nearing completion when I reached the last injector connection (cylinder 8, my favorite) and the retaining clip made a perfect arc into the intake. I just saw it jump then heard it jangle to its new home, apparently in a cylinder.

That put a hard stop on things.

I pushed a magnet down in each of the intake holes but it is too large to go all of the way (or to fit through the spark plug hole). My luck. So a trip to sears tomorrow for some clever, flexible, magnet is in my future.

The only obvious defect that I saw in the old harness is that the connector between the expansion tank and the firewall, which is gray, had a brown wire that was pulled partially out of the connector on the vehicle side of the connection. I'm not sure what that went to.

I do have a question. My new harness has two green wires that are clearly ground wires in each injector loom. I see no place to connect them. I double checked my old harness and those wires are not on it. This confuses me because both harnesses are from 2000 land Rover discovery IIs. In fact the one with the green ground wires is my original harness. Does anyone know where they go? They look like they would attach on either side of the intake. They would reach the top screws on the coils so if I can't find anyplace else to put them, that's were they will go.

For simplicity, I'll number the engines. Engine 1 is the original from new. Engine 1 overheated in a catastrophic way but the harness is pristine and that is the harness that I am putting in. It has the extra green wires grounds on the back end of the injector wires.

Engine 2 is the one I got to replace engine 1. Engine 2 was a pull from a wreck that I got pretty cheap. It has unknown history but worked like a champ until it started leaking at the head gasket a few weeks ago. The harness in engine 2 always looked a little rough, but I used it because it came with and was connected to the engine.

So I am putting harness 1 on engine 2.

I know that if you have SAI there is an extra cannister near the firewall on the passenger side. I don't know whether engine 2 had that originally because it was stand alone when I bought it. But if SAI means that there are extra holes on the side of the engine or heads, then no it doesn't have SAI either.

Now it is possible that engine 2 does not have its original wiring harness. But the harness I am putting on, from engine 1, is definitely from a non SAI setup because I bought the vehicle (new) with that harness and no SAI.

I am going through some old photos I took when I did my head gaskets and I do not see those extra wires on each injector wire loom.

Here are some of the best pictures I could find of my harness in that area. Maybe you can tell something from the pictures. Can you take a picture of the extra wires so I can see where they are located.

Pardon my mess here; I stopped in the dark and it is still dark now.

That green wire exits the loom just behind the number 8 injector, and there is an identical one on the driver side just behind the number 7 injector. Sadly I don't remember disconnecting them when I removed the engine that this harness was on.

What is really odd is these wires are super clean, which suggests that they were in the intake and not hanging out to the firewall or the back of the intake. I dont see any wires like that in your pictures.

Again, this is the original harness that came with my truck, which does not have SAI.

This is what I found. From the connector just south of the reservoir near where the harness goes through the firewall.

I'm so glad I kept my defunct engine (engine 1) for bolts, rockers, harness, crank sensor, etc. I even reused the front cover. Someone please tell my wife that hoarding sometimes pays off.

From what i remember from when I did my valley gasket, The green wires screw to the rear of the upper intake manifold. 1 each side.
