Default Need help!!!! Centering ball removal

I am in the process of replacing the u joints and centering ball on my 03 Disco. I have all of the u joints out but ran into trouble with the centering ball. I rented the slide hammer from advance and followed the instructions on the "front prop rebuild" pdf. When removing the ball the race did not come out with the ball. Any suggestions??????

Split the race with a sharp chisel and hammer. Look at the replacement and you'll see a small lip at the top. On the old one, split this lip then work down the side about halfway. At this point you should be able the bend the race a little and slip a screwdriver behind the race and pry it out.

Second option, use a dremel tool to cut the race.

Third option, use a torch to heat the race and bend\pry it out.

Go *****! *(I like my "taters" mashed!)

I ended up using the dremel. It took a while just trying to be careful.
