If it's the first time you've used it, I don't think it will ruin anything. If it's got 3 tubes of Bars Leaks in it already then yes, it could. Either way it needs or will need a permanent fix. Recommend you see if a friend who is more mechanically inclined is willing to help.

 

I'm not suggesting the K-Seal as a permanent solution. If you use the K-Seal according to directions and after its use you no longer have the codes or loss of coolant and you know of no outside leaks then you have bought a little time and confirmed that you'll need a head gasket job. It's important to follow the directions faithfully.

 

Bif the head gasket job seems daunting but it can be done in your garage on a Saturday, even on the first try (I know this from experience). You don't have to be a mechanic... just need some cheap, common tools and a head gasket kit. If you don't fix it, it will clog your right catalytic converter, requiring a new y pipe.

You could try a sealer in the coolant, but you are wise to be concerned about the heater core and it is never a permanent fix. A cup a week is not a lot but that can turn into all of your coolant with no notice and turn into a disaster if it steams.

 

Thanks Charlie. I might give the L-Seal a try as a temporary fix until I get the time to give the head gasket job a go. I some mechanic experience. I used to own a service station, but about the most involved I got was water pumps or starters.
