Need help, please.
About a week ago, the CEL came on and I was able to get the codes from a good friend of mine who has a code reader. The codes indicated (don't remember the code #s) that cylinder 4 and 7 were misfiring and 2 other codes indicatingmisfiring as well.
While I had to take the car to the dealership for a different problem (leaks), they also made me aware of the fact that I had to get new spark plugs and wires. If I would have let the stealership do it, they were going to charge me about $680.00.
After reading and searching the forum, I decided to buy the 8mm Magnecor plugwires, bosch +4 plugs and intake plenum gasket as recommended by Disco Mike. Roverconnection.com shipped them overnight so I can do the project this weekend.
Now this is whereI need the help.
Is there a walk-through in this forum or anywhere else on the net where you guys can refer me to. I am alright with tools and have done several jobs on different cars, but I know that I would have to take the intake plenum off to get to the distributor cap which sits behind the engine.
How hard is this job and can you please give me tips and tricks to make this project as smooth as possible.
All input is greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you in advance.
Eddie
BTW. I have a 2003 Disco II with about 59K miles on it. Stealership just replaced the ABS Modulator for about a total of $4200.00. I am glad I bought the warranty!
My deductable was only $75.00. A week later I brought the car back for oil and other fluid leaks, which they were supposed to have fixed. After picking up my truck and driving it for about 2 days, there was even more leaks, so I had to bring the truck back and finally they got it right, it seems. I still love my rover...lol

Eddie,
I just pulled the intake plenum on a Rover engine (from '01 disco). It was on an engine stand so I had easy access to everything but it only took a few minutes, and shouldn't be much harder with the engine in the car. The disco IIhas a two piece manifold (plenum) and I believe that you onlyhave to pull the top part off to get access to the coil packs with the engine in the car (can someone confirm this??) By the way, your car has coil packs instead of a distributor- coil packs is what your ignition wires plug into...
You will have to pull the plastic intake pipe offthat goes from the air filter to thethrottle body and then disconnect the throttle/cruise control linkages from the throttle body, and any other hoses or electrical connectors that might attach to the plenum/throttle body. Then it is just a few bolts that secure the top part of the manifold to the bottom. Some of the bolts are in recesses and might not be apparent at first glance, but once you get all of them the plenum should come right off. Disclaimer: this is all from memory.
Also, don't forget to tape or otherwise cover the now openrunners in the bottom part of the manifold. Something is bound to drop in there if you don't.
Hope this helps - Piotr

wow, 5 minutes into it and already stuck...lol
got the 5 top bolts off and can't seem to see anymore. Does anybody know how many bolts I need to remove to take the intake plenum off and if so, where are they?

Wow, what an adventure, after 8.5 hours, the job is finally done. I don't know if it was my fat hands or the fact that I didn't have anything to guide me other than a this thread in the forum, but it was quiet challenging.
Today I will be doing the Seafoam treatment and will use this forum as a guide once again.
Should anybody out there ever want to do this project, let me know and I will be more than happy to help.

Eddie,
I'm glad you got it done - sorry I couldn't have been more helpful. I realize just how much easier it must be to do this when you have the engine on a stand and have unobstructed access.

Do you know how to do the induction cleaning, do you have 2 cans of fluid, 1 can of carb spray and 2 feet of feul or vaccum tubing to do the induction cleaning? Do you know where to hook into the manifold?
Mike
Mike, I have no slight idea how to do any of these things you just mentioned. I am considering to do the seafoam treatment today, just doing some more research on this forum to find out exactly how to do it.
So any advice you can give me is greatly appreciated. And by the way, I would also like to do all the other things you are mentioning like the induction cleaning etc.
Thanks in advance!
