Need new Engine advice...
Its been a while since I've looked for info or posted on the site. but I have a 04 S Model DiscoII with 4.6l air-injected motor. The moter over heated and we did a head gasket swap and still no luck so I am in the market for a new engine.
Is it better to convert over to a Range Rover engine to aviod this happening again??
Should I just get a new Short Block and pray for the best?
Who has these engines at a good price? the S Model kelly blue book is valued at only $6,000 so I dont want to dump a bunch of money into it...
also I have experience with swapping engines in old Jeep and Land Cruisers so I am pretty sure this wont give me to much of a headache

You can thank all the Fu$cking idiots at LR for your reliable and quality built POS... The problem is the block....It's probably has a crack behind the liner. Find a bare 4.6 block and have Top hat or Flanged liners put in it. The liner work will run you about $1,6000.00 and you should be able to find a block for under a grand or less. That is your only out... I also just bought a 04 POS and have the engine in my garage in parts now. They are about the worst engine ever made....I feel for you....
Let me know if you need any help, Chris

if you can fab up an adapter plate you can do a diesel conversion with a OM617...I'd love to have one but my fab skills are lacking..hopefully there will be a kit on the market soon

disco with a OM617 would be the perfect vehicle IMO

It's expensive on any DII to do a diesel conversion..about 10k just for the parts. then add another 80 hours of labor and shipping....The best diesel LR conversion shop in the US wont even touch a DI let alone a DII... They did a DI....only one....unfortunatly, you have a DII and well...i wont go on....After i rebuild mine the only thing i want do do is sell it and get a DI..
I just found a guy near me at a Junk yard that is selling a 2004 4.6l engine block!! thats great news and he wants 750.00.. no how can I be sure that this block is not bad?? are there specific things I should look for or ask them??
Do you guys know of any particular place that sells Engine blocks, short blocks or complete engines?? I am in the Charlotte NC area..
Also I know that this engine is the same thing as the Buick 4.6l V8 right... and could I go a different route that way of finding one of those engines for cheaper??
