Default Stuck engine. Need advice!!

Hello guys

Had a problem with my disco.... Forgot to change the oil..

Well.. I was driving it and the engine stopped working without any weird sound, any overheating or oil lamp signal.... it just turned off as if you would have done it with the key.

Hauled it to my mechanic and he took the oil pan from the engine and started checking the state of the piston and the crankshaft. Everything is Ok: all the pistons are not stuck. Somehow the crankshaft is stuck.

He will take out the engine today, but I would like to get something about your experiences.

What could be? Something inside the timing plate? Do I need to remove the complete engine to check it?

Thanks!

It had oil, but was in very bad conditions. I do not use the truck very often, and actually I had already purchased the new oil to service the engine while it died. The car is a 94, 3.9 and has about 170,000 miles on it.

As far as I know, the automatic gearbox can not stuck the engine... that's why I think it is the engine.

For the value of the truck, you have 2 options, buy a used engine and have it installed or sell your for scrap, cause it will cost too much money to rebuild your engine.

At that age and miles, I would be looking around for a different engine or even a different vehicle.

I'm with Danny. Not sure how difficult it is to find trucks down there but I would look for a Defender or another Discovery 1.

Default Maybe new engine

Well....

My mechanic is taking out the engine just to check what happened. This kind of repairs are relatively cheap if you compare the price with the prices you are used to pay in the USA.

Also, as far as I know, some Chevy engines have the same parts than the Rover engine. Depending on the damage, it may be cheap to repair.

In parallel, I am evaluating to replace the engine and install a Isuzu diesel or something similar. If I do that, then I will have my disco for at least 5 years more.
