Need new tires for 2000 Disco 2: Michelins discontinued
I’m looking for new tires for my stock 16” 2000 Disco 2.
For many, many years I’ve had Michelin LTX MS tires. So imagine my surprise when I searched Tire Rack this evening and found that Michelin has discontinued that tire in most sizes, including all 16 inch tires, and my further surprise that the Michelin Defender 2, the replacement for the LTX, also doesn’t come in a size anywhere near 255/65R/16.
So: what are y’all doing for new tires? Almost all my driving is on paved roads, so off-road is not a concern.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, they don’t come in the size I need.
There are now only about seven tires on Tire Rack that fit, down from what used to be thirty or more. I ended up going with a set of Firestone Destination LE3. I don’t think they are quite as quiet as the Michelins, but based on the limited driving I’ve done since they were installed this afternoon, they seem reasonably quiet so far.
I bought them from the local Firestone dealer, and, with a Black Friday promotion on a set of four tires, ended up saving over $300 compared to what tires + installation would have cost from Tire Rack.

At this point, I’m planning on doing a set of Kenda Klevers when I refinish the Comets. I don’t know they will have your size, but I suspect they will. I’ve had those on my Jeep for a few years now and I’m VERY impressed with them- especially as they are pretty cheap; I got a set of 5 in 35” pizza cutter size for the Jeep at $1k, which is a pretty good deal.
I’ve done a bunch of rock crawling, snow, rain, and even distance on the freeway and been very happy especially at the cost. This is a full on mud terrain tire, so be aware if you don’t need/want the radical traction they offer.
