In my 15 years with the DII I have never been prompted for the radio code after reconnecting the battery.

Unless one was programmed in by you or a previous owner: it would not ask for one. I think the owners manual discusses the procedure to implement the code feature.

If the battery is disconnected: it is automatically switched off and then the radio will need to be powered back up by actually switching it on by depressing the volume ****.
