It should be directly behind the negative battery post about 6 inches or so. Here a picture, circled in green. It's on a post which provide several ground points. Also, just because the picture reminded me of it, check your bottle jack, over the years the fluid had completely run out of mine and I just happened to check it out of luck and found that it didn't work- best to know now before you might need it! I keep mine in the back storage cubby now so it can sit upright away from the heat (plus I've modified my battery box a little bit so it would no longer fit anyway).

Update: Early days, but I replaced the crank sensor yesterday and have not experienced any issues yet - though have only taken her for a couple of spins. Note: Out of all the guides I read about changing the sensor, not one mentioned what a PITA the harness would be... If anyone reads this it is best accessed from above, and you need to push it back towards the firewall to get it out of the bracket first before disconnecting. I would recommend attaching the sensor itself before trying to reconnect harness, and pushing sensor end of plug against the bracket when reconnecting as the cable wants to twist away the whole time (unless there is a way better method I missed in my reading!). I used some really long needle nose pliers when I did mine. Was able to reach the clasp on the plug end and just press it down to pull down. Reverse to put it back on but I couldn't get them to clip so I got it as close as I could then used my hands to press the ends together.

Yeah I wish I had something like that to hand... I tried with a few sets of pliers but nothing was able to get in that space. Had to take a few breaks to get myself zen during the process!
