I have a dilemma...

My '99 Disco was pounded with golf ball hail. Upper surfaces are severely dented, especially the hood.

Insurance has decided to chalk it up as a total loss, but I'm not so sure I am ready to part with it just yet. I am getting some quotes for dent removal, but I am also looking to see what is out there for sale.

I have access to vehicles at auction prices, but I am not sure how to discern between the available options.

My '99 has ACES, and on the surface it seems that most vehicles out there for sale do not. Is there a visual give-away on the '00 and up Discos that have the performance package? Was it even an option? With what the insurance is willing to settle for, I can pick up a decent '04 at auction, but there's not much to go on in the auction descriptions.

Any advice is appreciated!

Look under the hood for the two-part power steering reservoir. There will be 2 caps if it has ACE, one for power steering and one for ACE. You can also look under the truck at the sway bar. The ACE sway bar is huge compared to a standard sway bar.

just curious, how much do you pay for comprehensive insurance? I looked into it for my '99 but could not justify the cost due to the low value of my rover.

So if my Disco has the two cap reservoir but no pump and a giant sway bar up front, then it used to have ACE?

Comp with $250 deductible is $57.69/6 months with State Farm.

The headliner comes out pretty easily for access to the dents from the back side. If it didn't crack your paint, they can be pushed out. How much do they want to buy it back? Hoods can be found under $400, then just paint. I would get a quote to fix the dents first, if you like having ACE. There is a 2000 by me with ACE and they want $8K for it with leaky head gaskets. Oh, and ACE will have what looks like large shocks connected to the oversize sway bar.

The ACE system has a larger power steering pump (both pumps are in the same unit) if I understand the system correctly. If you have ACE sways and no pump, you will have a Rover that will lean allot in corners. I have alot of fun suprising passengers with my ACE system!

Anyone have a good source for hood?

I spoke to best dent guy in the area, and he suggested I replace the hood. He cringed when he saw it and figured out it was aluminum.
