Here goes...

I bought a 2000 Discovery ll with 93,xxx miles. Neither sunroof will open. They haven't opened since I bought it 8 months ago. They would make a clicking noise, but no movement. After reading posts, I purchased and installed a new sunroof ECU off a reputable Ebay parts dealer; however, I am getting the same clicking noise with no movement.

I am guessing this indicates I need to replace (two?) new sunroof motors? Is there a way to tell without just purchasing new ones? Neither sunroof leaks. Could silicone possibly have been used on them already to keep them shut? Different fuse to check?

Not sure what ails you, but I have known-good sunroof components for sale. Let me know what you need, or if you want to test parts, and I'll help you out any way I can. It's very unlikely that both motors are bad...

 

When I bought my 02 disco a few month ago the front sunroof would not open but I could hear the solenoid click inside ECU.I removed the motor opened it up & cleaned it with some MAF sensor spray and its been working good for over a month now.It had a lot of what seemed like moisture damage inside.Any contact cleaner should work.BTW I had removed headliner to paint it because it was sagging and had water stains so that made it easier to work on sunroof motors.I also "DISCOvered" two broken sunroof drain connectors.
