Default new engine

hi people
i have a discovery 1997,
my engine is 3.9l
i want to change it to 4.6 litres
can anyone tell me if i=this is feasible, what should i change also with the engine, if i can change only the engine block or should i change the whole engine, i know it sounds crazy, but i personally dont want to get rid of my beloved discovery, she's been with me for 10 years, never failed me.
if anyone also knows how much does a new 4.6l engine costs please tell me
do we need to change the computer board also?
thank you
fady

It will take a little work, but you can switch out to a 4.6 short block only. You can not drop in a complete 4.6, cause that is a Bosch engine and management system and yours is a Gems. By doing just the block, you won't need to switch out the ECU.
What you are going to need to do is find a good 4.6 short block, inspect and rebuild as necessary then have a valve job done on your heads and start building.
Where are you located?

You won't be able to do it over there, I doubt.
You would need access to a good shop and a large selection of engines to pick from.
I am in Colorado, USA and if you were to do that sort of a swap here, your would be looking at $4000 to $6000 easily.

hi mike,
well actually there isfewdozens land rover's shops herebut 2 or 3 are excellent shops here in the city for land rover maintenance repair and tunning, as well as the land rover company,
the company refused to do it, because it is against their policy.
The thing that made me post this question, is wanting to know the price and what shouldI expect, because the shops here said that it will cost me around 2500, to 3000 US$, so when you gave me the price estimate, i think it is cheaper here!!! hehehehe, well the expertise is excellent (i've been exhaustingmy discovery, off roading and snow mount climbing in lebanonfor the last ten years and till now all i have done to it, is the normal maintenance and changing the exhaust tube and oxygene sensors) but the problem is that I personally dont know which engine is good and which one is not, so this is why I asked, my mechanics said that he will guarantee the result, and will give me 2 years full warantee on the engine block, that he will fix, he said also that he will gonna change the disk breaks and turn them intoperforateddouble disks because the original disk breaks will not be very satisfiying with the larger engine. (personally i do trust my mechanic alot but i thought it would be clever to ask someone else in this planet.
now mike, further to your reply, I advise you man to come and service your disco here cause it seems cheaper and very good workmenship
thanks very much for your help, hope to meet with you one dayclimbing a harsh, slippery, snowyand muddylebanese hill with our discoveries, till than, have a nice life.
thanks again.
