Default New to forum and question about door leak

I just purchased an 04 Disco yesterday. In the very short time I have owned it I really like it. Only annoying thing is it has horrible wind noise from the rear passenger door. Is this common? What do you think is the fix? New weather striping or is it possible the thin window frame could be bent? Thanks for any help. This is my first Land Rover and hope I really enjoy it.

Welcome. Please enjoy the free download of the factory tech and owner's manuals, called the RAVE, below. You'll be looking at gasket.

Both is possible. Replace the weather stripping first and see if it fixes the issue. I however had to also purchase a roll of generic weather stripping trim from Auto Zone and add on top of the new factory trim to prevent water leaking in at car washes.

There are a few things you can try that helped me eliminate the wind noise on my discover.
Try these:
1) first look at where the glass slides up in the frame. There should be a felt like material that is made to create a seal with the window as it moves up and down. This felt can freeze/stick to the window and be pulled down the channel thereby eliminating the seal. If yours got pulled down like mine (check both sides of the truck to make sure they are the same) you need a pair of needle nose pliers to pull it up again. You need a good yank to move it.
2) If it turns out to be the door itself is off, and not creating a seal with the weatherstripping then open the door and take a look at the metal latch on the wheel well. These require a torx bit to move, but you can adjust them (unscrew it and move the latch more toward the back seat then screw it back in). This will allow the door to shut closer to the truck cab and hopefully make a tighter seal.
3) replace the weatherstripping if it is cut or missing anywhere
4) put some Vaseline on the weatherstripping to make it supple again
5) I did it but I would not recommend it ..... Open the window, put a knee on the inside of the door, and yank on the black frame of the window toward the truck. What you are trying to do is bend the frame so that it makes a tighter seal.
6) Trade me your 04 for my 99

Good luck

The window frame is separate from the door. It might just be a little out of adjustment, if the seals all check out OK.

Out of adjustment...Look at the hinges, see if there is a old mark were you can maybe tell if it moved.Ck to see if its aligned with the lines of the outside body.I personally wouldnt try the man handle method of bending it...next I would go with new seal...

Thats just what I would do....Maybe right...maybe wrong....But its a rover...its all in fun, what else would we have to do if we didnt have all these corky little issuses to fix.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I am going to check it out tomorrow. I am thinking that it is the felt in the rail as that is where the leak feels like itis coming from. I will report back after I check it out. So far I love the rig!
