Default New Head Costs

So you guys may or may not remember that I was having some HG issues a few months ago. Well the mechanic I take my truck to is finally getting down to fixing everything. I spoke with him last week, and he said that he may or may not have to replace the head. Dumbfounded at this new development, I didn't ask what the cost was going to be on that. I'm planning on stopping by to see him tomorrow to check on everything, but I'd like to get an idea of how much a new head should cost. Can anyone give me an estimate on how much extra I'm looking at here?

I would just get a used one and have it resurfaced and valves done if need be. Used heads are pretty cheap at around 100 dollars. Hope that helps.

You should not be using a mechanic that guesses and does not give you a reason why and a cost.
Call him in the morning and hold his feet to the fire, what is wrong with your heads, how did he determine it and hy isn't a machine shop doing the work?

find out why yours can not be rebuilt, used one are cheap $50-100. AB sell new heads thet are like $500 each and they want your old ones as cores, so they can start selling rebuilt heads.

Indy shop in Boulder CO replaces the heads ALWAYS with rebuilt heads which they
have rebuilt in Denver somwhere. All for $2,000.

I met these guys as I walked into their shop.
They seem really nice and know what they are doing.

I wanted to save $2,000 so I did the heads myself.
But, I did not get my heads rebuilt.
So, actually spending the $2,000 with these guys may have been the way to go in the long run.

I just wanted to be as cheap as possible and have some fun in the process of rebuilding the heads.
The work is back breaking as it is very tedious.
