Default New Key Copy Stuck in Ignition

Today I got my main key (with the remote) copied at a locksmith. I was able to start my car using the new key no problem, and I went and got some lunch, parked and the key came out fine. Then I started up the car and went home. When I got home however the key would not come out of the ignition at all, it is stuck at position "I". I've tried most of the usual Disco key fixes like pulling the solenoid and messing with the gear selector to make sure its in park, but to no avail. Is it possible that my new key is the problem? Maybe it is a few mm's off? But If it was a little off I am not sure why it would come out fine the first time. I'll be taking it to the locksmith's tomorrow but does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

It is an 04' Disco II

Thanks

I had that problem. There is a electric pin lock that keeps the key in the ignition, and mine just quit working.

As I recall, and my memory is a bit foggy here, if you pull the plastic covers off the steering column you'll see a small plug with two wires that plugs into the lock mechanism. I unplugged the wire, and was able to extract the key. I never plugged it back in, and it works perfectly.

Problem Solved! I had unplugged that thing earlier and After struggling with it for a long time I quit and I just went back to try it one more time and it slid right out. Do you know if leaving this unplugged will effect my battery?

Mine has been unplugged for year. It's an interesting question, though, because I think I do have a small parasitic drain that kills my battery after a few weeks of sitting.
