I thought that as well, however, as the sleeve moves up and down eventually it will hammer away at that aluminum lip. I have an 03 engine block as an end table that failed because of this.

What weight oil are you running? If it runs a steady 30 psi at idle when hot that is more than enough. Most will not clear 45 psi unless you really get the engine spinning to 4000 ish.

The slipped liner thing has long been a mystery. They slip up believe it or not and that is what causes the tapping. If was tapping and you have the engine out you may want to consider pinning the cylinders.
Maaaan, for as long as I've been reading about the slipped liner i really thought it's slipping towards the crank - semantics i guess, i vote to call this issue a "rising liner".

I run rotella T4, and quite honestly i probably should have let it warm up some more, but if 40psi sounds good, then at least it's not an oiling issue.
