Alright, TDI tstat in....temps are around 195 at 70 on the interstate. Idles around ~199. I'm very pleased. Bleeding was super simple. IDK what people have issues with. Replaced the spring clamps with real, Wurth, worm clamps. Then took the jack and set it up under the res. Bleed screw out, filled it up.....coolant came right out, closed it up, replaced res, topped it up. I let it idle to 190, checked it, level was fine. Drove it around the block and stopped to get gas, again, fine. Temps never went over 201. ^_^

Brakes bled....much better. Feels like they could be better, but I don't feel like I need to press the pedal 2x to get adequate pressure. I was alone, so kinda bled them in a less-than-proper manner.

I also sprayed the bottom of the engine down with Purple Power and hosed it down to remove some of the caked on oil and spilled coolant. Worked well. Now there is a sound, not so much a tick, but more like the sound the traction control makes when it activated. Only when the engine is under a moderate load. Quiet at idle. Slow acceleration is fine. Moderate to heavy acceleration I can hear it with the window down. I almost think I cracked a exhaust mani....

Mine makes that same sound under moderate to heavy acceleration, has since I bought the truck almost 3 years ago. I've stopped caring about it.

So this thing does amazing in the snow. Got a little over confident a time or two, but no terrible outcome. I'm impressed how this thing does with worn out all seasons....but should I not be?

I'll be slapping on my spare set of BFG mud terrains for Rovers at Wintergreen. That and possibly some 1" spring spacers....may remove the side steps...but I kinda like them. Thinking of ways to mod them into some sort of rock/tree sliders.

Also decided to take the thing through the car wash. Upon leaving I had a miss. Checked with UG and it was cyl 2. Figured it'd sort itself if some water got in there...and only had a mile to drive home from the wash. Got home, cleared the code, restarted, no miss....unless I really stop the gas. Creep up the revs and it's fine. Tried a few key cycles and the light never came back on...but still was missing with an nice punch of the throttle. No codes, but I assume it was cyl 2.

Also, donno if I mentioned this before, but IIRC I read somewhere D1 springs will fit D2s.....but give a bit of a lift as the spring perches on the D2 are lower. I have a set of D1 springs...I'll investigate, unless someone chimes in negatory.

So, truck is going under the wrench this afternoon.

My e34 broke the WP/alt belt so figured while I had the D2 at the shop I'd do work. Going to mount up my BFGs and install the spring spacers, as well as change the oil and T/C fluid...maybe even AT service since I bought the filter kit way back.

Planning on going to Rovers at Wintergreen on April 10th....seems my misfire thing crops up only after messing with water. Doing some reading on waterproofing these trucks, since I know I have an issue and there will be some wading at RAW....looking for opinions/methods?

Thanks!

BTW, my CEL and misfire just went away after letting the truck sit overnight.....

On the to-do list if I do drop the pan tonight. Have one ready to try....just pulled apart (and cut apart) a 89 325i/A last week.

So, due to the crappiness of our tire balancer, I spent a good two hours M&Bing these tires. Also the old ones were really just stuck on the wheels.

Got the 1" spacers in...really no difference in ride height as the tires are a 235/65/16 and the originals were 255/65/16. So I have a bit more wheel gap in the fenders, but the overall vehicle height looks to be about the same.

Also installed my ladder with rivnuts.....rivnuts are amazing.

Didn't get to do the trans stuff. Did get to changing the oil though.

Also, found this yesterday....

Should have just bypassed it when I had the system open for the T-stat. I've been losing coolant very slowly...suspected this, but never noticed anything until now.

Also my temps seem to be creeping up again....right after 180 T-stat install I was around 198 idle, 194 cruising 70 on the interstate. Now it won't drop below 200 driving and has pooped up to 210 at idle. Perhaps the system is getting air in it from the leaky throttle heater.....hopefully.

Anywho I fixed my e34 so the Rover won't be driven until I fix this leak.

Well crap...

Something went bouncing around between the radiator and the fan....1yr old radiator. bunch of divots and eventually a large hole. No idea what it was or how it got in there. I've driven this thing many miles without opening the hood, so I can't have dropped something. Ordering a new Nissens thru work ($210 hit I'd rather have put in my RRC v12 project) since R@W is this weekend. Of all the vehicles in my sig....the only running, driving one at the point is the 94 535iT.

This pics is making me wonder if there are clear front turn signals available for these? Not a fan of the amber.

So.....FYI....changing the radiator in a D2 is super simple with a right angle screwdriver.

....and the hero....

Ended up removing the coolers so I could mount them on the radiator properly. Super easy with the old rad out of the way. Lost enough ATF that the thing wouldn't go in gear, so I ended up swapping the trans filter....then found out I didn't quite get the right trans cooler line clipped into the cooler. It blew off and sprayed ATF all over. God I hate those quick disconnects.

I found bits of plastic....IDK what they came from. Nothing in the bay is broken. The entire system was apart a year ago when the headgaskets were done. I found a small, pointy bit of plastic right under the hole in the radiator....then a large, right angled bit beside the steering box. Fan, shroud, etc is all in tact....only the radiator took some hits and eventually a puncture. Oh well....

Rovers at Wintergreen coming up this weekend....can't wait.
