No.

I do have my laser thermometer in the truck. It never occurred to me to just use that. Doop.

The needle never moves past 1/2 on the gauge....but I know the temp gauge is a liar.

I'll hit it with my thermometer after I drive home from work today and report back.

yep, you may have some sludge or something going on.
you already know its not air flow as fan is on at cruising speed.

but you are right....that needle is in the middle from 150-250...

As far as I know it is. I may just let it idle in the driveway, monitored of course, and see when it kicks on. It just shouldn't be on all the time

Stupid stupid way of doing things.

Max I got with the laser thermometer wasn't over ~190F. This was the t-stat and upper rad hose that runs across the top of the shroud. Rad outlet was ~80F. Given this was really the hose temp, but IDK if it sounds way out or not.

I towed a utility trailer, empty, 40 miles home, 70mpg cruise....dropped it, truck idling the entire time, then stopped for gas, drove 4 miles, 55mph, stopped at the store for 5 mins and drove two miles home, 35mph. Fan was running when I got home. Then I checked the temps and got the above readings. Econ mode the entire time. It was 40F or less ambient temp.

I'll check he Rave and see if there are ways to test the coolant temp sensor. I feel like this is just a ridiculous wild goose chase w/out actual monitoring on the fly.

Drove it to work today and immediately plugged up the Autel to read the temps. Here's a pic of the screen:

This was after idling maybe 5 minutes while I got the scanner from inside. Right on the cusp of having the fan on. I think I'll take it for a drive after work with the Autel hooked up and log the temps vs fan on/off. I may be making mountains out of molehills....but I don't wanna take any chances with this thing and cooling.

Checked, and the rad is brand new. I forgot I helped install it when the HGs were done. Accidentally dropped a screw driver into the old rad.

Hrmmmmm.....

well I would have to deduct that its a water flow issue if your hwy speed airflow is not bringing you down.

I once chased a similar issue to a chunk of that plastic tee, broken and lodged in my new rad.....hrmmmm
