Default New Member with a few Questions.

Hey everyone.

Just picked up a 2004 DII. I've read through the manual and have spent some time on this forum as well since I have one issue that I've researched, but I'm not sure if I've found the right solution. The cruise control doesn't work. When I press the master switch, it turn orange, but the steering wheel buttons do nothing. I've read it is most likely a vacuum line issue, but I've also read the 2004 model doesn't utilize vacuum lines for the cruise control? Not sure which is correct? However, I did find a hard plastic vacuum line which is broken (pic attached). Any idea what this is for and where it goes?

Also, there are two wiring harnesses behind the hood, under the wipers. One is connected to another harness, but the wires are cut (driver's side). The passenger side is not connected to anything. I'm wondering if these control the lights on the brush guard which do not work. I've checked the AUX fuse and it is fine. When I press the master switch (below the master cruise control switch) the light on the switch does not come on (and neither do the lights). Am I on the right track?

Thanks for your help.

That is not a vacuum line, I don't think. I think that's a vent for the front differential. The wires that are cut and disconnected, I believe are the connectors for the heated windshield. Which you may not have. If it is heated, you can see tiny wires in your windshield if you look very close. I think they have the same wiring harness either way.
I can't remember if the 04 has vacuum controls for the cruise control or not? Someone else will know, I'm sure.

Vent lines from front diff and trans are located on RH side of eng comp I believe and that one may be a vent in another system, thinking possibly from brake booster.

Plug as said for heated windshield and one pigtail/harness side may have been discarded when the terminals corroded to death and no longer existed on your glass.

Description - cruise control
General
All markets have a common cruise control system. The cruise control system, when activated, regulates vehicle
speed. The system consists of an electrical sub-system and a mechanical sub-system.
The electrical sub-system consists of the following components:
l Cruise control master switch (on/off switch).
l SET+ switch.
l RES switch.
l Cruise control ECU.
l Vacuum pump assembly.
l Brake pedal switch.
l Clutch pedal switch (manual gearbox only).
l SLABS ECU (speed signal).
l BCU (brake pedal switch and automatic gearbox gear selector lever position signal).
The mechanical sub-system consists of the following components:
l Pneumatic actuator.
l Vacuum pump.
The cruise control ECU controls the cruise control system. It is located on the right hand A post.
CC has own vacuum pump to supply servo and short hose(s) easy to check. Dash switch will turn on pump to run constantly once certain conditions meet. Should be able check pump applying 12vdc to connector.

The "cut" tube is definitely a vent tube. The connectors are for the heated windshield. not sure why the passenger side is cut, both on vehicles with heated windshields both are connected ( I checked mine)
The cruise control guts are located on the passenger side in back of the radiator overflow tank. You can follow the the cable from the throttle body back to it. it is the front cable on the throttle body. In the RAVE manual section 19.75.11 details adjusting the cruise control cable.
Mine stopped working for a while when the headlights were on, but worked fine when they were not on. it is a flaky system.

Wow! That's a weird problem! Did you ever figure out what caused that?

I did not trace it down specifically, but I swapped out my vacuum lines and it never happened again. I don't think they are related but with Rovers you never know.

when my cruise control stopped working it turned out to be the horn fuse. They share the same fuse on my 04.
