Great site, I appreciate all the help in advance

I have 2001 Disco II that has been giving me some problems lately. It has 84k miles. The "service engine soon" light has been coming on and then going off at times. Sometimes it'll blink for a few seconds too. I changed the spark plugs with the recommended quailty plugs and checked all the wires. I've also run fuel injector cleaner through the system several times. The code that shows from my code reader is "cylinder 6 multiple missfire detected." I sould also point out that the light would come on about every month, then either leave or i'd reset it. I just drove 1400 miles with no light coming on, and after arriving to my destination the problem is back and it seems more severe. There is hesitation and slight loss of power (almost a minor shaking of the engine) associated with this problem.

I dable in weekend mechanics and in the past on other vehicles, symptoms like this would direct me to the fuel filter or some sort of fuel starvation problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site. When you say "recommended quality plugs", what kind exactly? There aren't many plugs out there that will run run good in a Rover. When you took your old plugs out, did you look at them to see wht they looked like? Were they black, oiley, white? Most folks here recommend Bosch Platinumplugs ( i think for your engine they are the 4418's, but not positive.) Also, search the board for "Seafoam". DiscoMike has written in the past about cleaning the induction system with SeaFoam...I did it noticed a huge difference. Hope this little bit helps.

Thanks for your reply. I honestly can't remember what plugs they were. I moved (the 1400 miles mentioned above) and had other things on my mind. I purchased what was recommended from checker. I do remember them being by bosch. Also, when I changed the wires, I inspected everyone and they all looked reasonable. I'll search about Seafoam, thanks.

More suggestions?

I didn't change the wires. I just looked over them as best I could. I plan to change them now with the continual onset of this problem, but my gut tells me that its fuel too. Hope I am wrong

Get some 'Magnacor' wires before you lose any more sleep over this. There is a good chance that new wires will solve the problem and you should replace them anyways if you don't know when they were done last. I recently had the exactsame issues immediatly after I got my 02' with 87k miles. I gotworried after reading about all the problems it could be while I was waiting for my wires to arrive. New wires and plugs solved my problems though. Magnacor seems to be very good quality at a good price and a lot of people have good luck with them.

Thanks jkid

I'll order the wires. You are right I should anyways. Could you lead me in the right direction on where to purchase the wires?

Thanks

Check this thread out:

I don't know what kind of deal they still have though.

I got mine at ultrarev.com because it was near me. If you google magnacor wires, or maybe even search in ebay, something should come up. You can shop around this way and you'd be surprised how many stores sell parts on ebay.

I too recently experienced my first misfire issue. Both random and Cyl 03.

By the advice of this site, I installed the Magnicore wires and Bosch Platinum +4 sparkplugs. Resolved everything.

If your Disco is similar to my 03 you may be able to do the wires without having to pull the Intake Manifold. See link. https://landroverforums.com/m_41479/tm.htm
