New member needs DTC assistance
Vehicle is a 99 Disco 11, 165,000 miles, head gaskets have been replaced and overall the vehicle (after weeks of clean up and fixing what the previous owner didn't) is decent.
It is owned by my 17 year old daughter, (don't blame me its what she wanted and she bought it herself), thus the name Gee-Gee.
I am a Ford guy with extensive mechanical skills, however I am looking for input from the experts here.
I chaned the CPS shortly after she purchased it last month, changed all fluids, did a major clean up, and replaced all brakes and one rear caliper on the drivers side that was trashed.
Also put a new set of upper radiator hoses (vent screw on top) on it.
It runs pretty well, or did until today. When she came home from school she told me that it had a miss and the "service Engine Soon" light was on.
I was able to gather the following with my scanner.
6 DTC's--- P1300
P0302
P0303
P0300 p/d
P0302 p/d
P0303 p/d
And the following 7 items appeared--- misfire
fuel
comp
catalyst
evap
02 sensor
02 heater
I pulled the plugs (NGKBPR5ES which appeared to be running a little lean)
and cleaned them all, and reinstalled. This eliminated the miss that was evident when I drove the vehicle, however I feel I should change them.
The vehicle has blue STI ( Spark Transfer International) plug wires that are probably a year or so old judging by their apperance.
Anyone care to offer what needs done to the vehicle.

When it comes to Rovers 90% of all O2 codes are spark related.
Replace the spark plugs, clear the codes and go from there.
And just so she knows, you MUST use premium gas, if you dont you WILL have problems.

Do you recommend the same plug? How about the wires?
Affirmative on the 91 octane. I believe the previous owners were using a lesser octane, but we have cleaned things up and are using at least 91 Sunoco.
How do you get to the coils? They seem to be hiding behind the intake?

Hey Gee-Gee...welcome to the madness...I like the plugs & wires in my signature...please read the top thread titled "Write ups" and "How To" completely...I think it will answer a lot of your questions now and in the future...the coils can be gotten too without removing the intake, but you might bloody your hands a bit and shout a few dirty words in the process...I would re-build the front drive shaft with greaseable parts first if that has not been done.

Yes the STI wires are good ones to use, I have been a long time user of Iridium spark plugs.
These engines are nothing special so dont go broke on plugs, spend the money on the wires as these trucks tend to eat wires for afternoon snack.
You do not want to go through the trouble of changing the wires just to have those bargain wires go bad in a month.

Has anyone tired the ngk wires, I've used them on other wire eating cars over the last couple of years and had good luck. the magnacor/sti/kingsborne wires aren't something i've run across from napa, uniselect or carquest in nova scotia.
