Ok, they bought 3 months ago and then it died. Most used car have a 3 month warranty. I would be this one of a host of problems, this one rose up faster than others.
I'm going to quote an Englishman since these are English trucks:
RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY!!!

Ok, here we go. Checking out this LR tomorrow and hopefully walking away with it! Talked to the owner already and seems the car keeps getting a misfire code for cylinder 8. He claims that the dealer can't figure out what the solution is.. He's asking 5K which is think is a lot -- hoping to snag it for 4k.

Thoughts?

Crawl under that car with a very powerful flashlight. Like I said before, no frame pictures makes me nervous. I don't for one second buy that a dealer cannot figure out a misfire.
Good Luck.

The misfire can only be a hand full of things.. Right?

1. Plug is messed up
2. Spark wire is melted / bogus
3. Coilpack could be going out
4. Possible Cam sensor fault
5. Possible 02 sensor fault
6. ECU could be faulty but i think that is probably a long shot.

I agree that there is something weird about the "dealer not being able to figure it out" nonsense. I guess i'll find out tomorrow..

Low compression (caused by bad rings, cam lobe worn, burnt valves or hole in piston) or anti freeze leaking into a cylinder (headgasket or cracked block) will also cause misfire.

Welp, passed on that one. Owner is super nice but didn't know anything about his disco. Valve covers and HG were apparently replaced but there was oil all over the place in the engine bay. Coolant tank was half full and there was barely any oil on the dipstick.

Oi. He was pissed that i was pointing all this stuff out because the dealer was supposed to have fixed all that. Oh well!

On to the next one this AM..

Needs front diff gears?? Makes you wonder what he was driving thru! Again, you are going to really have to get under the truck. If he had been doing serious off roading I would think he would have installed skid plates. Check the VIN to see if it is in the exploding oil pump era. Needs Cats? Approx $700. Are they visually damaged? Could be from off roading. I just put new tires on my D2. Generals 255/55/18: $900.

Well, that was also a dud.

The seller was super nice -- he said he was driving around town, took a few right turns and kept hearing a grinding noise which progressively got worse. He and his buddy took the axles out and said they were find but the gears in the final drive were toast. He said the honey comb from the cats were blowing out the back of the tail pipe as well hence the need for new cats.

Big thing for me though was he was unsure of the HG situation and the motor was easily caked in like 1/2" of oil everywhere. Smoker car as well which is no bueno.

On to the next one!
