A good set of metric 1/2” or 3/8” socket and wrench set, a do it all screwdriver you can swap different heads out of should be good. Maybe a breaker bar. Triple A Gold Membership just in case.

You may want to bring along a new thermostat Genuine, but things like belts, sensors can be had at Napa or other stores. A new set of good wipers would not be a bad idea either.

Convert it to Rotella 5w-40 for the drive with a K&N 3001, but the other fluids last 20k to 40k so just make sure they are topped off and not completely shot.

Have a good time and Congratulations!

If you plan to swap the stat out before you drive, make sure you know how to bleed the cooling system completely. Not that difficult but often overlooked.

Probably won't swap it out before we drive since its winter, so should be ok getting home -- but just going to bring it along just in case.

I'd be sure to ask about, or check, the transfer case fluid, both of ours were empty, or nearly empty after purchase. I believe this is one of the most overlooked fluid changes on these rigs.

mainly because checking it is a pain in the neck, and they leak like crazy. And you will need a 1/2” breaker bar to do this, a 1/2” Socket wrench not a bad idea either. I use the pump type filler that fits right on the heat oil bottle, and it works great.

Harbor Freight is your friend. I have had good luck with their impact sockets, and socket wrenches. The filler plug for the Transfer case is concealed by a cable. A 1/2” socket with as small a head as possible is a good idea. Also, maybe a small length of pipe to add to the end of a 1/2” socket instead of breaker bar could work well.

then buy a bag to keep the tools in, in the back. I keep a few specific tools in one for long trips. You never know if you may have to change a headlight bulb, or other ancillaries.
