New Member- transmission?
I recently purchased an 03 Disco II with 60,000 miles. The rover appears to be in excellent condition with one exception. When I test-drove the vehicle it would makea "clunk" on hard acceleration or deceleration. The dealer claimed that the he had performed a safety check and that there were no know problems with the car. Is this a typical noise? Or is this a sign of transmission/ transfer case ware? Also there is a small crack in the front bumper of the car, anyone know what the bumpers are made of –TPO, ABS, PP, HDPE ?
Thanks!
Thanks!
The klunk can be normal assuming your u-joints are all greased, that both slp shafts are greased.
As for the bumper, because of it size and position they are always getting hit. The crack is probably repairable but with painting and all it won't be cheap. Where is the crack located?

Thanks for the reply, I will grease and check the drive shafts and universal joints for ware.
The bumper crack is dead center, on the top of the bumper. 3M has epoxy repair material for plastic bumpers (Duramix™)that work quite well, but you have to know what type of plastic it’s made out of.
Thanks again.

When you look at the front drive shaft, inspect the constant velocity joint where it attaches to the t/case, if there are no grease fittings on both of the internal u-joints, get them replaced ASAP before they fail.
They are the weakest spot on the drive train and can destroy the trannt when they fail.
Can't help you with the plastic question.
