Default New Owner with decision to makes: Keep or move on to another project

Hey LR Disco2 Commmunity,
So I fell in love with the Disco2 and wanted to build a overland vehicle with it. I purchased two 2003 Disco2 recently for really cheap under 3.5k combined in California. Now for that price you bet there were issues. I was being hopeful that I would be able to utilize one as a parts car for the other. I found out both have engine issues.
My question now is whether to call my losses and try to find a better one or go down the path of fixing them.

2003 Disco2 S (Salvage Title)
Engine woes - wont pass smog, head gaskets leaking, coolant hoses need replacing (some missing), sputters to stop probably overheating after 10 mins of driving
Three Amigos
Window regulators not working on 3 of 4 windows
Driver and Right Rear Passenger door locks not function correctly (probably actuator)
Gas door doesn't lock
Bumpers are messed up (planed to replace anyways)
Headliner drooping
Has minor Paint issues

2003 Disco2 SE7 (Clean Title)
Engine woes - weird clacking noises from engine, no leaks
Three Amigos on occasion
Driver and Right Rear Passenger door locks not function correctly (probably actuator)
Bumpers are messed up (planed to replace anyways)
Headliner drooping
Paint crap (really sunburned)

LS swap option is a question whether I should do in California since it's a 2003 with OBD2 and regulations are a headache to do a motor swap on a post 1999 vehicle.

I'm debating on whether it's worth it to get the Atlantic British long block or not at this point... Or find a working vehicle.

Thoughts?

The SE7 with the clean title doesn't sound all that horrid from this description. How about some pics or maybe video of the engine noise.

The one with the salvage title...sounds like a parts car to me 100%

They're not both the same exterior color are they?

Well you have 2 engines, one with a weird noise that could just be rockers other one may have over heated.

I would start by picking the body you want to keep, then pull the motors, and do a rebuild. You have 2 blocks and all the stuff attached my bet is you can get a solid engine out those.

You can pull regulators etc from the body that you will scrap.
