New Purchase 99 Disco II
Just recently purchased a 99.5 Discovery Series II. with 150K miles - paid 2300. Had some issues most of which i have fixed. New head gasket - done, New tires - done (BFGoodrich a/t 255/70/16), the low/high cable was no good and brought it LR to have them take a look they told me 300 to replace which i thought was reasonable - bad idea final bill 900. replaced the front left tie rod and am told I need a right Tie rod assembly. the "3 amigos" come on intermittently short in the ABS module LR says - was told by LR would need a new ABS module for big money. i also did the 60K mile service in the main forum. i have a couple questions tho:
1. anyone know a good reliable mechanic in southeastern MA or where i could look for one
2. is there any alternative to replacing the ABS module?
3. how high can i lift it without having to modify too much else on the truck and not put too much strain on the set up as it is my daily driver
4. do the 99.5 series II have CDL's and is it worth the trouble/money to convert it using for example the lucky 8 ashcroft CDL kit?
5. anyone know any good spots in southeastern MA to take this thing out?
any help would be great!!! thanks!!

2. yeah you can just replace the shuttle valve
4. yes the '99 DII has a CDL. you can crawler under the rover and turn it on. Also, you can fab up a linkage for about $10, search around online the plans are out there. I thought I bookmarked it but I can't seem to find it now.

You can buy a used SLABS unit or a rebuild kit.

Yes your truck has a CDL, just not the shifter inside the cabin.
Go to RoverLandParts and buy a CDL shifter and linkage.
3" is the max that you can lift without doing any thing else.
2" is what most people go with.
www.cartalk.com, find the Mechanix Files link, enter your zip code and you can find shops in your area.

For the lift, you can do up to a 3" with no issues other then brake lines, look at Old Man Emu or RTE.
Yes, it does have the correct t/case just need to add the linkage and it is worth every penny of it.
