new rear shock mount location?

so,I cleaned my bent shock mount of the muck and now am looking to fab up some new mounts. I'd like to get them up a bit and protect them a little. not sure if a higher mount, in reference to the axle, will affect the efficiency. (i not that smart, but it seems, to me, it would be the okay)
is anyone familiar with a relocated set up, to keep'em up off the ground? or do I just need to beef up my junk and stick with the dropped location?

I too hate how low the shocks hang and I always thought that they would be easy to knock off. Thanks for proving my thoughts correct

Could you not just raise the lower shock mount and then get a shorter shock? It can't be that simple

I've seen these shocks by MetalCloak that might solve your problem. They are a Compact Long travel Shocks. MetalCloak 6Pak Long Travel Compact Shock Technology (Patent Pending)

What kind of welder do you use? I've been looking into getting one but I'm not sure if I need to fork out the big bucks for a name brand or if a cheaper HF or northern tools one will work for the smaller amount of fab work I have planned.
