It may not be the Y Pipe, it could be leaks ahead of the O2 sensors, as I think that is what did my cats in, or O2 Sensors.

Also, keep in mind that you can cut and weld individual or both cats if you remove the driveshaft, but you'd have to find a shop willing to do that.
