Default New to the rover have a question!

Okay so i recently baught a 2002 Discovery and love the car but have ran into a troubling problem. The truck is kind of a dog, at first i assumed that it is a heavy truck with a super small block v8, but then i went on a drive to flagstaff (i live in phoenix) and i was having a hell of a time up the hills. I mean we are talking with out just puting my foot into it going around 45-55 mph. Now for the details, there are no engine codes, at 75k (truck now has 104k) the 60k service was done by previous owner (by a shop). I can not find the paper work right now but i know the tranny was flushed and the coolant was flushed. Now i do not have magnacor wires or bosch plugs (plan on doing that very soon) nor have a done any sea foam treatment and i am unsure if that is simply my problem or if there is something else i need to be looking for.

Oh and the passanger side rear door lock will not lock with the rest of the locks when i lock the car.

Thanks for the help.

Nick

What grade of gas are you using?

As for the passenger door lock, you need a new door lock actuator.

But now that i think about i bet the other guy was not, something tells me he was kind of cheap. Would that have caused irreversable harm?

You mean like if he used the wrong gas?
Yes it did harm, but you can change that.
Use premium like you are doing, use full synthetic motor oil and change it every 5,000 miles.
It will take the ECU 500 miles to re-learn how you drive and the new gas.
The ECU is constantly learning and making adjustments, it does this over a 400-500 mile range and then takes the average to give you the best possible of everything that it has to offer.
So assuming that he used regular gas and drove it hard...
Since you just bought it give her some time before you do anything more than maintenance and bring her up to par.

That is a very good point! I think that i have put around 400 miles on it so far but it has been benched for the last week while i waited for new tires to come in because one of them was seperating at the center. But if it does not perform any better what should my next step be??

Thanks

Nick

little seafoam and a lot of WOT will do wonders if you are carboned up.
