Default new TD5 in 03 discovery USA

my 2003 4.6 has the dreaded "hydrocarbons in the coolant" issue. if i end up having to replace the motor, can i put a diesel in my discovery? is this even possible in the US considering diesel specs etc? any figures on cost?

There are a couple TD5s in the US, one is for sale in Colorado. Colorado doesn't do emissions testing so it's all good.

Colorado does on the spot emissions testing on the ON ramps to the freeway.
When you see those, you lighten up on the gas pedal and try to coast thru the emissions inspection point on the ON ramp to the highway.

Jeeeez I didn't know that, wth? How do they accomplish that? The TD5 is a pretty clean engine though.

Correction, Colorado does, in most counts, do emission tests, I just did mine last month.

Not sure why you would want to spend all those dollars to convert to a diesel, yes you might get a little better mileage, but a lot less power.

The diesels are terrible for that year. they are incredibly slow. The newer v6 is better by a long shot.

Really? My friend there has a completely illegal 110 and has been fine for half a decade. Is it different parts of the state or what?

As I mentioned in most states testing is required every 2 years, and there are a few who figure out how to register up in the mountains where there is no testing.
Funny thing, at least here in Colorado, is to go on a wheeling trip and wait at the trail head for a 1/2 hour or more for the diesels to show up, usually first detected by the smoke and rattle.
