Well that is definitely not marked like the el cheapo junk I got. Give it a shot! Bleed the air out of the system and report back. If it doesn’t work get your $$ back and just buy the 33.00 unit from auto zone as I know for sure it works! Main thing is getting all the air out of the system.

sorry didn’t you say the 82c Britpart you received had your rover running in the 200s?
The 78C Britpart = has served me & many of my customers and friends extremely well. Since yours came in a Britpart box and it’s stamped I would give it a go. The vendor I bought em from switched from boxes to just bubble wrap & they were marked inside completely different.
With the britpart I run 184-206F during normal SETX summers going 70-80MPH Down I-10 with the HVAC on full blast.
The bad batch of el cheapo’s = you see 195-200F almost instantly.
Usually the thermostats are stamped with opening temperature labeled in Celsius. Here is the V8 thermostat breakdown:
- Cream is 190F/88C° with Hard Spring (Designed for TD5 and V8 applications) PEM100990B / PEM101020
- Black or Cream is 180F/82C° with Hard Spring (Designed for a V8 and used as a stopgap with Freelander K4 engines) PEL500110
- Grey is 180F/82C° with Light/Soft Spring (Freelander K4 engines)
Also there is a metal thermostat housing #AJ813558 for a Jaguar 3.0L V6 that you can add your own thermostat.
Apologies for reviving an old thread - this one has a lot of good information about selecting a thermostat and avoiding knockoff versions. I bought an OEM 180 from Lucky8 that came in box marked PEL500110, but the housing is grey. Also, there is no stamp on the thermostat (at least not one that's visible without removing it from the housing).
My current thermostat has the truck running from 199-204 in most situations. Hoping to get that down. Can anyone tell me whether or not this looks like it's a real 180* stat?

Get the 78 c from bearmach cheap and probably the best on the market

I ran 188.6 to 201 with that one during city/ hi-way driving, since my head gasket change over I am running a bit warmer 188.6 to 206 with the same driving but I have not eliminated a radiator issue.
LR OEM 180F thermostat body = Grey. LR OEM 190/195F thermostat body = cream white. Good aftermarket 78C stamped thermostat body = Black (it absolutely DOES NOT have the LR Freelander mount on it) If it does have the mount tab and it's not marked 78C inside = generic crap!
My Thermostat Top 3 List:
#1 OEM LR Grey 180F 60-80.00
#2 Aftermarket Britpart/Bearmach 78C stamped 180F 33-40.00
#3 Aftermarket Motorad 180F 33.00 at Auto Zone
Just to follow up - I threw in the new stat a couple weeks ago. It turns out my previous stat was a cream colored Motorad stat - not sure what the temp rating on it was, but I was usually running 199-203 on the highway and 203-208 after pulling off the highway.
The OEM LR Grey Stat (pictured above) was purchased from Lucky8. I'm now seeing highway temps of 186-188 and stop/go temps of 190-195.
