New Thermostat and Coolant Flush - LR Low Temp Stat and Peak Global
you know what they say .. looks like a duck ... talks like a duck . Get that pink stuff out asap or you getting a head job .. the bad kind .. you can get the Peak at WalMart or Wallgreens .. mix it with distilled for best results ..
Remove the lower rad hose or unscrew the rad cap if you have one .. drain .. then fill with distilled and prestone flush .. drive the car around to get all that gunk out .. rinse repeat until clear water comes out .. fill with green and distilled .. add a bottle of wetter for good measure .. and if anyone in blue overalls argues with you about it .. find another guy to work on the car ..

Drain from the lower rad hose -- do the procedure folks do with the garden hose to push out a lot of the coolant from the top hoses -- reconnect and fill with water from the garden hose and Prestone Flush (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Prestone-...ottle/35764365) -- drive around for about 10 miles -- let the engine cool down and drain again from the lower hose -- if all is clear then just fill up from the resevior the rest with Peak Global Lifetime concentrate and bleed (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Peak-PXA0...t-RTU/17201158)
(also I have 01 stock parts and it seems the T does not have a bleeder, but the top hose across the fan shroud does.)
OK -- I really am having difficulty finding any place that has Peak Global in stock. Walgreens only has the 50/50....
SO if you all are really saying go with the green... what coolant should I pick up? Preferably one I can get at my local store and not waste time searching the universe for!

Will this work:

Your local auto store should have green coolant. Walmart?
My Walgreens ended up having 4 bottles of Peak Global 50/50 -- I ended up going for it. I ain't changing out to a new hose and T at the moment. My current stuff is still fine. I am the second owner and the car was garaged most its life as a secondary ride.
So tomorrow, if I pull the lower radiator hose, drain out, refill with distilled, let it run, then drain out again, and refill with the peak global i picked up, I think it should be ok no? As long as I bleed properly...

I did a coolant flush recently. Here is what came to my conclusion after reading endless posts about the topic: Remove the cap from the coolant reservoir. Disconnect the hose at the thermostat (lower connection which comes from the radiator), let it drain, then blow air with mouth into the coolant reservoir opening to get more out. Reconnect the hose at the thermostat, fill it up with distilled water (no tap water, since it contains minerals). Remove the coolant reservoir from its position (it's just snapped in) into a higher position and bleed the system by open the bleeder screw. Close the bleeder screw, put the coolant reservoir back in its position, close it tight with the cap. Go for a test drive until engine is hot. Stop the engine and let it cool down until you can touch the hoses comfortably. Repeat that 2 times, in total you do that 3 times, since you get less than half of the total coolant amount out each time. Then drain the system a last time again and only clear distilled water (or something close to it) should be coming out. If not, then it needs more flushes. Finally you have only distilled water left in your system. Then add 1.6 gal concentrated coolant (not 50/50) and top up with distilled water again. This way you make sure your coolant is 50/50 again (total capacity is 3.2 gal). Bleed as described, go on a test drive, check for leaks. Next morning when it's cold, bleed again, drive it, check for leaks. And the following morning again and so on until you don't get any air out anymore.
The flush did indeed reduce the coolant temp by about 2F on my D2.

Thanks for that info. Is there a way for me to get more out? I have 4 bottles of PEAK GLOBAL LIFETIME 50 50 as I am unable to find concentrate. If I can do this with what I have, that would be excellent.
Now that I think of it, even if I only have peak global 50 50 to work with now and that is all I use on refill after the distilled flush first, would it even matter much during these summer months? Maybe before the winter comes again (NY) I can drain a bit and refill with a bottle of Peak Global Concentrate that I can order somewhere... Just a thought. I think it makes sense?
I used the recommended dexcool (pink/organge), Prestone Concentrate https://prestone.com/products?detail=AF888
I did two rounds of distilled water, one with the prestone rad flush in it too. The last round I reversed a shop vac through the reservoir and through the top hose. Alot of the extra stiff came out. I think I got a decent amount out because I refilled with almost 3 containers of Peak Global Lifetime 50 50 and a bottle of Water Wetter. I did the bleed process. Today, I will bleed again and I should get more in there, possibly might open the 4th container. So far so good. The Genuine LR low temp thermostat is the way to go. My temps are in the 180s consistently now. Very happy so far.
