Question New to TrueTracs and lockers... Need your help DiscoMike

So, my front differential failed on me as I was driving home from a rover club outing in Indiana. I had to get it towed back 84 miles... lol. It's a lifted 2002 Land Rover D2, almost 190,000 miles on the odometer. Anyways, my mechanic came to my aid since he was on the trip as well, he was the one who made the diagnosis of the failed diff.

I would like to ask my mechanic about moving the stock rear diff to the front, and then install either a TrueTrac in the rear, OR a Detroit locker. Something to keep in mind, I don't have a locking CDL yet.

My questions: Will having a TrueTrac in the rear and a stock open diff in the front cause problems? I do plan on getting a front TrueTrac in a year or so, I just wish to get my truck back up and running, and don't want to replace the broken one with a used diff.

I apologize for bringing up this topic when there are others out there, but I couldn't find one that covered the whole idea of mixing an open diff in the front and TrueTrac in the back. FishEh explained to me the basics of different differential and locker options, I just am trying to learn as much as I can.

Thanks,
Tim

Don't know if Disco Mike will be along but that it is fine to run a tru-track and a open diff

You'll have to swap the pinion flange, assuming you've still got a 3 bolt rotoflex style flange on the rear diff. FishEh posted some photos of his "custom" tool to pull the pin out of the flange. Maybe he'll let you borrow it...

I would start with converting your transfer case over to a locking CDL first, you'd at least "probably" had been able to drive your rig home rather than a tow bill (depending on the damage I guess)...And I would use the Tru-Trac for rear posi. That's my future plans on mine anyway...
