Default Newbie here. Got a few dumb questions

Not sure why the orange cable is disconnected.
Both the driver and passenger side have these cables disconnected
At my thumb and forefinger these two cables are disconnected as well…
Hey… became a discovery 2 owner. Pretty excited.

2004 Discovery 2 - S
Currently no modifications. This is going to be a build but am lost in a few things here... maybe you guys can shed some light. We were taking a drive across town and the car overheated and this was while running the AC sitting. I quickly shut it off let it cool down and turned the AC off. After a little reading on here I found the fuse F5 40amp and replaced it with no issues. However in the meantime I discovered a lot of disconnected wires and I’m curious to find out what they go to… Disconnected things don’t always mean good or bad I’m just curious.

Wires by the windscreen are for the optional heated windscreen, orange plug by the coolant jug is also for other options. Not sure about the one under the dash panel.

How do you know it was overheating ?
Have you installed 180 stat ?
Do you have a ultra gauge?

The air conditioning started blowing hot hot air and I started sweating. I know from reading here I should go by the indicator light - but I knew it was hot. Shut off the truck and AC and let it cool down. Temp gauge on dash which had the red light on was all the way in the red. Waited about 20 minutes and ran without AC and headed back home - gauge returned to mid-level between hot and cold.

Motorad 439-180 thermostat??

Thank you for the wiring help!

something else rather humorous ... previous owner modified the oil cap. Schedule 40 PVC. Then oil cap pushes into the top of the pvc... Raised the oil cap height up I’m guessing?

Don't buy the Motorad. Get either a grey or black OEM/Britpart one https://www.lucky8llc.com/products/low-temp-thermostat

Sounds like you need a few hours of research on here all the must things you should do right away.
Letting the temp gauge go to red is how you get cracked blocks etc
spend the time research
go to disco mikes sticky on the maintenance learn
