Default Newbie: Window/sunroof repair?

Sorry for lobbing such a vague newbie question, but I'm looking at a '98 disco with intermittent window functionality and non-functional sunroofs.

I know it's vague (please forgive me?), but worst case scenario what would it cost to repair?

I'm a shade-tree mechanic and not afraid to wrench. The biggest source of stress is the wife who would rather I buy a fully functional disco rather than one that needs some work. But I want a disco!

Anyway, thanks in advance!

If just one door, door panel comes off with basic plastic upholstery pry tool. It is structural foam and fasteners will rip out if not delicate. Simple motors and regulators. Now the sun roofs - repairable, but if closed, leave them that way and consider silicone sealant. There is a mechanical over ride to move the motor for the sun roof closed.

Trust me, there will be much more serious items to work on than the sun roof.

You can download the factory shop manual, called the RAVE, at links below.

Hard to find any disco out there that isnt going to have some gremlins if it wasnt owned by a guy/gal that didnt work on the bugs. Escpecially for a vehicle 14 years old...this aint no early 90 benz that will run forever... If you know how to read, turn a wrench and be willing to spend some hours in the garage when the little things act up go for it!

You wont find many other rides out there that have such a large following on the forums like the disco.

Sunroof motors can be changed easily but the time consuming part is pulling the head liner (not hard just tedious), motors and even whole sun-roofs can be found pretty cheap on e-bay. Dont be surprised if they leak either...very common problem if not across the board...doesn't require much to fix the issue but requires removal of the headliner and some silicon.

My motors in my D1 died after being subjected to constant water from the roof leaking. Or you could just have a blown fuse
