Maybe clean up the deck of the motor really nice and post some pictures of the trouble cylinder.

Owning these rovers is hit and miss.
Well, that Robinson guy in Mass looks to build some fine motors with tophats.
You'll probably never have trouble with his motor installed.
Of course, his motor is what - $4,800??
I would make sure your transmission is also top notch when the motor is out.
Yeah, well, not my money.
Shoot.
What would I do?
If the Rover is in excellent shape and I was flush with cash.. And, I did not want to
buy a NEW car, then I may fix it.
Or, look for a used one with blown head gaskets and fix it.
Or a used D2 that is just plain cheap.
Tough call.

The answer was on the first page of the thread, they had a cracked block and failed liner, also this is a 6 year old thread
