No cruise at all?(I searched,really....)
98 Disco-the only thing that "works" is the dash switch to turn the cruise control on.Nothing else.I checked the fuse-ok.No dash light or noise that it is even alive[&o]I will be ordering a shop manual soon, but I figured you guys had nothing better to do today[8D]Thanks ahead of time,Mike.
Not sure how to check em, but you may have an issue with the finger switches on the steering wheel. I have heard of those not agreeing with moisture(spilled coffee) [sm=jawdrop.gif]and they short out.
I am assuming the cruise "light" won't come on till you hit the switch on the steering wheel? If the switch at the brake pedal is hung up-I could have the same symtom? If it was out of adjustment, would the cruise control "think" the brake was on,which would keep me from setting the cruise?Just a thought.......
MEP, are you saying the brake pedal arm has more than one switch? I'm having the same issues with my cruise control. Light on the dash lights up fine, nothing happens when the controls on the steering wheel are operated. Has anyone disassembled and cleaned the switches/contacts on the on the steering wheel? Should I be worried about the air bag punching me in the face?
keep us updated if you resolved your cruise problems.

there is a hose that goes to your brake pedal, check to make sure its hooked up and no cracks/leaks. Also check all the vacume hoses that go from the pump to the diaphram (spelling) and to the brake pedal, the "T" is right about the master cyl. 90% of the time when the cruise is not working on a D1, its a cruise vacume hose problem. The CC pump is under the power steering resivor, behind the driver headlight.
OK, here's a question... I fixed the vacuum lines on my 97 Disco and the cruise started working. Next day, no cruise. As I was driving I pushed the dash button off then on and magically I have cruise again. Later that day... no cruise! For the rest of that day... no cruise! Next morning on the way to work it's magically working again.
Does this truck hate me or what?? I've been very nice to it I promise!!

Ditto Mike - My 97 d1 cruise had (3) vacuum hose leaks in a week.
I'd fix one & shortly another would pop up - replaced all cruise hoses under hood - works fine

I have replaced all my hoses, and still have the intermiddent problem discribed above. What about the 2 short hoses that are on the vacuum pump itself? Is there a way to test the pump? actuator?

I went through almost everything described above and more but ultimately it was the cruise ECU located behind the glove box in my '97. Too tight to get the old one out, so I simply pulled the plug on the old one, plugged in the replacement, and wedged it in behind the dash.
