Thanks for all the info I found a guy that will sell the differential and a 99 transfer case for 350.00 shipped to me.

How do we know its the diff and not an axle? Is it apart yet?

Nobody knows whether it's the diff or axle yet.

I would say because of the loud clunking sound that it has been doing for the last couple weeks. But it would never do it while I was looking for it and it has had what I thought to be an extensive amount of travel in the ring gear to pinion ever since I got it.

What did you have to change on yours when you installed the transfer case?

Ended up replacing the transmission output shaft as it was not aligned properly and it was scored. Other than that it was just the t-case and t-case linkage.

Even that is most likely too old of a production date, Rover ran out of the old style t/cases just after the middle of the production date, maybe around April or May.

It is easier and cheaper to replace the nose assembly, linkage and Hi/Lo shift plate on your current t/case then buy and install a used one that may already have mechanical issues, all for around $250 in parts and your labor.

Find out how many miles on those 99 parts, you don't want to buy a diff that is already warn out. Beside, you first need to find out if the spider gears or the cc joints failed before you do anything.
