Default No Headlights in Position #1

Hello,

It seems my headlights no longer come on in 'dim mode' when the headlight switch is turned to position #1. They use to come on at 25-35% when the switch was in position #1. They do, however, work just fine with the headlight switch turned to position #2. And all other lights work correctly when in position #1.

I can't find any posts or threads relating to this issue and could use your advice or input on how to identify or fix this problem.

Thanks,

Matt

That's daytime driving lights. They're normally on anytime you're in drive, not just when the interior lights are turned on.

Thanks DaveBFoto, I have a 2002 Discovery SE7. The DRL's (the term I forgot) only come on when the headlight switch is in position #1. There were/are no headlights/DRL's in position #0 and the headlights are in full power when in position #2.

Really? That's odd. I have an '00 DII, which is basically the same truck. My DRLs are on anytime I'm in 1-2-3-D, regardless of the position of the switch. I would assume all 99-02 DII DRLs work the same way.

My D1 has a second, smaller, bulb mounted in the headlight plastic housing, second connector on the back of the housing. It comes on at the first click of the switch, then the main bulb comes on at the second click. The ETM of the RAVE shows several fuses involved for all of this. Anything like that on the D2?

D2s have the same setup (at least before the facelift): a smaller 194 style bulb in the headlight housing. Mine come on when the switch is turned to position #1. From what I have read in the RAVE, it is a programmable option to have them come on whenever the vehicle is running, regardless of switch position.

Wow, I had no idea they did this. LOL. Mine only come on when you click to #1. I just figured that was the parking lights or something. Learn something new every day.

Those are called the "city lights", they are to be used when driving through small towns at night in Europe and the UK so as not to blind people in their homes.
Because the streets are so narrow there is like no sidewalk and the houses are right at the streets edge.

So MattyMatters should start with checking the bulbs and the fuses. Seems like both would not burn out at the same time.

But think of it this way, 2 brand new bulbs are installed, they both have a "X" hour life span.
They are both used for the exact same amount of time.
So it is very reasonable that they both burn out at the same time.
He does not need to do anything, he can leave them as they are as it will not hurt anything.
Mine have both been burnt out for 3+ years.
