No spark, not CPS, M and S lights flashing
Hi, I've done some work on a friends 2000 D2, the crank position sensor went out on it about 8 months ago, I replaced it along with the fuel pump, and it has been fine since. Recently it wouldn't start so he replaced the battery and its still not starting. It has no spark and I can't hear the fuel pump priming but thought I could smell fuel while cranking it. I checked the firewall switch which was fine, and it seemed like the crank position sensor had crapped out again.
I put a new crank sensor in it today, and it still has no spark. The battery reads 12.5 v, I also tried cranking it while jumping it with my car, tried spraying starting fluid in the intake to verify no spark, and cleaned all the grounds and battery cables. The large fuses in the underhood panel show some slight corrosion through the clear covers but all seem to be making contact.
The M and S lights on the dash flash during cranking which I found to be a transmission switch code, but don't know if it is somehow related. There are no codes in the computer and I can't think of what else it could be. He said he has replaced the battery several times in the year and a half he has owned it which seems like it could be from a bad voltage regulator in the alternator but I don't know if that would somehow prevent it from sparking or could have fried the ECM. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

M and S lights flashing happen when the crank position sensor is out of alignment or when the battery does not have the proper amperage when the transmission is engaged. Based on your post. charge the battery fully, if still an issue re-align the CPS.
the m and s lights are for sure related.

M and S lights can also come on as a result of the no start condition. You keep cranking and cranking and eventually the battery wears down to the point you get the M and S lights.
I've heard of bad fuse boxes producing no spark symptoms similar to a bad crank sensor.

Check individual fuses, had same problem recently and my 20 amp fuse to the coils was blown. It is fuse #14 I believe under the steering wheel. The diagram is on the flap and in the owners manual. It fired right up after I replaced it.
