Default no start help...Please

I am working on a 2004 DII with 80k...

It came to me for help not running after service at a "Just Tires" store were they made the car worse. It ended up needing a head/valve job due to one of the small valve cover gasket spacers being droped into the intake. I have corrected all of that exceprt for now it has a lifter noise and needs to come back apart for lifters.

The origonal complaint was a check engine light with p0308, p0171 and p0174 with an extened crank concern when starting. They proceded to replace the MAF sensor but it still has the condition. This is what I have so far

1. Ignition wires are new, Magnacor
2. Correct new champion copper plugs ( they has installed the incorrect ones, helped a little )
3. Good spark, Right side coil is new
4. MAF is new
5. Cleaned the stepper motor test good.
FUEL PRESSURE: 0-psi when key is off. will rise to 20-23 psi and maintain when engine finally starts areound 12-15 psi. will run and idle at that psi. will drop quickly back to 0 psi when key is off. When driving hard under a load there is hesitation and an intermittent p0171.

I did alot of searching and it seems fuel pumps are not too common? Do you have some insight.

If you want to get some help, send me your number and I'll call and walk you thru what needs to be looked at. You have a pump failing, I bet you have the wrong MAF and you don't just want to throw a set of lifters at it.

UPDATE:

..Replace the fuel delivery module, corrected the hard start issue .

..still have an issue with the lifter noise. Tested the oil pressure 3.4 bar at 2000 rpm with 10-40 and with 20-50 synthetic...noise seems mainly concentrated to cylinder #7 and or 8.
I guess my next focus is the rod or main bearings or a blocked passage..

to date..
new lifters
swapped rocker shafts with others on hand
replaced pus rods for 7-8
good oil pressure.
motor has been flushed several times. clean as a wistle on the inside.

Any help will be appricated.

Default Past situation...

I have a 2003 LR Discovery and about 6 months ago I had a similiar problem. After $450.00 cost to replace the crank shaft sensor, it was back to normal. Now, my gaskets are leaking all over the place. New project to finance now!

Hope that helped...
