I agree a battery test is the first step. A battery can show 12v and still be bad. If its bad, the voltage will drop as soon as it has a load on it.

It's your battery. I just went through this on my P38. Sat for a while. Turned the ignition and got a rapid clicking sound.

Put some quality jumper cables on it and same thing.

Assumed it was the starter. I hit it with a hammer, nothing.

Resolved to change the starter, but was dreading it, so... I switched out with a battery from my disco and Voila!

Cheers Abran.

That's the only thing that's got me stumped. Wih jumper cables from a running truck it wouldn't fire the starter. So I actually started to suspect my rather cheap jumper cables.

I have a mind to swap the battery anyway. Even though, now after starting with a booster pack it's running fine.
I also have to leave it sitting at times. Up to two weeks.

Not ideal.

Took the truck and a battery (AAP Silver Doohickey craft Blah....) I found in the back of the garage to AZ.

Battery on truck tested bad, back of garage one tested good, so it has a full charge and is on the truck.

Now, there is a reason it was stuffed at the back of the garage, and I can't remember what it is. But for now it's better than one that tests bad.

Seeing how I go.

you do know that that green **** is a battery disconnect switch right? did you put that in there or was it always there? have you removed the disconnect and tried it without it?

Yes, I knew that's what it was. I checked it out, cleaned it, made sure it's very tight.

It's always been there. I hesitate to remove it, as I do see it as of benefit when I need. Unless of course it turns out to be the issue, then it's gone.
