Default Normal noises??

Hello all,
We have about put about 500 miles on our new (to us) 03 discovery with 57k miles on it. I concentrate very hard on any little pings, rattles etc. to see what is normal in a used vehicle. are these normal for my Disco?....seems to have almost a very faint diesel growl to it at low rpm, fading in and out with acceleration and deceleration(very faint) maybe all the gears w/AWD, I'm not used to it. Also, it has a very very faint deep tapping noise at idle, in park, after it is warm....it sometimes changes w/engine speed, and other times it doesn't. Once again, I am used to my BMW 540i (which is for sale!), which makes no drivetrain noise. These sounds normal, or should I buy an extended warranty?! Thanks in advance, Nick

Default RE: Normal noises??

Hi Nick,
You should get a warranty anyways. I just got Great Lakes Warranty 60 months + unlimited mileage. I also moved from Mercedes Benz to 04 Discovery and trying to get used to the new noises. It's also a V-8 engine. My Disco at 5-7 RPM idle makes some noise. When you start the Disco with the AC on, that will make a different noise. When you first start after a cold night again a different noise. We moved for a car to an AWD 4x4 SUV. You need to get used to different noises. Otherwise this is an AWESOME vehicle with tremendous capabilities.
