Default Not just Rovers that tick

Lots of threads about the famous Land Rover "tick".
It's not just Land Rovers that do it.
About a month ago my work van developed a tick at idle, oil pressure was fine, ~10psi at idle, ~40psi at 60mph (no tach).
The mechanic checked for the usual suspects, oil psi (mechanical gauge to rule out the dash gauge), exhaust leak, cracked exhaust manifold etc.
Then he removed the transmission and found a cracked flywheel, it had crack's around each and every bolt.
So he ordered a new flywheel and sent the trans off to be rebuilt once again.
It had originally went into the shop for a trans fluid leak.
My van was out of service for 2 days, it now has a shift kit in the trans, the tick is gone and she is as quick as ever.
It went into the shop with about 220k on it (Duramax) and it now has almost 225k, it is a 2007.
Just thought I would share.

There are few jobs harder on a tranny and the rest of the vehicle than your mobile "office" in the delivery biz. Start out heavy each morning, as many stops as possible during the day, and always having to watch the clock.

I have always wondered if alot of the ticking on rovers is related to the flexplate. On mine I dropped the oil pan and could not see any cracks in the flex plate also, looking through the access hole at the bottom I couldnt see any cracks. I assume it would be pretty obvious cracks to cause ticking.

The mechanic only saw them because to removed the transmission.
Had he not he never would have found them.
But come to find out this is common on the Duramax, as is head gaskets and injectors going bad.

Dude I've worked on a gazillion land rovers and have NEVER seen a cracked flexplate!
Is it like a geographical thing?

I dont know RMTech, there have been half a dozen or so guys on here with cracked flexplate causing a tick on their Rover.
Being geographical might make some sense, flexplate going from really cold to really hot and then back again.
Although that makes no sense for my work van, it is parked inside a heated building all the time.
