edit, just saw his last picture on the ebay auction, he is running leaf springs and going BIG....monster truck big....there will not be much Land Rover left when this guy is done...
we should contact him and have him post his build/blog over on these forums.

A Disco is a good choice for a project like that because of the fully boxed frame. To try it with a pickup chassis you'd likely need one from the 70s or have to do a lot of reinforcement on something more current. Most trucks any bigger than that are built on tube frames.
You'd probably see more of that if the Disco was more popular in the US and the kind of people who are apt to take on builds like that were more aware of them.
