Might want to check the front/rear diff, tranny, and transfer case fluid levels!

It shifts properly, I have the impression it is diffs. Same noise coast or load. Thinking if tires don't change anything, remove ft driveshaft, see if any difference.

Doesn't everyone on the forum have two Discos, one DD and one for parts? :-)

Swapped tires, reduced gear growl by 90 percent. If I try real hard I can hear it. Will replace diff fluids. I suspect this towed a boat, has 2 in hitch ball, brake controller, and slight rust on the frame at the rear only, like boat launch submersion.

Two Disco's? You mean three: Daily driver, parts truck and an off-roader...

Took husband for a test drive after work. Had to try really hard to hear gear noise, seems quiet until it is driven a few miles, then faint noise. Went to Sonic drive in. Had to wait in line 15 min, then the temp gauge started going up. Parked it quickly and shut it off. Finally got food, started, temp normal. Drove home fine. As long as it is moving it is ok. Husband noticed he didn't hear elec fan come on. Now need to check elec fan in addition to fluids. Husband not concerned about barely audible gear whine.

With the front end damage, I would check all the cooling components like fan clutch, t stat, electric fan, and broken fan blades

Yes, just like Nigel. I refuse to do a compression check. I don't want to know. Ignorance is bliss. I know darn well the 3 amigos and SES light should be on based on the codes I read. I bet they pulled the bulbs or used tape...
