o4 Disco II (New Owner)
Yes Sir,
I am the proud owner of an '04 Disco II S with 14,000 miles. Not all that fancy but it's mine, or will be some day. I just love vehicle payments.
The dealer is ordering my owner's manual. In the meantime he gave me an old '01 manual to look at. Although the oil is fresh I will be changing it at 15,000 and switching to synthetic. I use Mobile 1 oil and filters. The '01 manual says I should use 10w-40 for my climates temp range.
Is there a difference of oil recommendation for the '04? I don't even know if I can get Mobile 1 in a 10w-40. I live in south Texas and the temps are mild to warm. The dealer in San Antonio used 10w-30 witch is what I use in my '99 Z71.
I did do a search but did not find anything specific. Sorry for beating a dead horse. Thanks for the help.
Jim

Use the Mobil1-301 oil filter, it is larger then stock for more filtration.
Consider changing your brake and p/s fluids soon, using 3 pints of DOT 4 and 3 quarts of p/s fluid as a flush.
You will also want to rebuild your front drive shaft, the 2 u-joints in the double cardon housing that hooks to the t/case have no grease fiting and will fail, usually taking out the tranny at the same time.
Enjoy that , not even broken in 04.

You MUST use premium gas in these trucks too. Do a search for the "3 amigos", "new owner" or "looking to buy". Even though you have 14K miles you should replace the coolant every 2 years, otherwise the acid will eat away at the head gasket$$$. Do a search for that too.
Where you live you can use Mobil 1 15w-50, that is what I use in the summer in both my LR and my wifes Volvo, then I switch to Mobil 1 5w-30 for the winter, I am in West Michigan.
I just found this out but a Xw-30 is only good up to 95*F, so if your outside temps are higher than that then you need a Xw-40 or Xw-50.
the w-40 is good upto 122*F and the w-50 is good to even higher.
The first number is how well it pumps when cold, which matters to us in the North, not to you guys in the South.
I too would change it at 15,000 and then change it every 5,000 miles there after. Just look for a "0" or a "5" third number from the left, no oil chnage sticker needed, dont worry about the "100's" numbers.
